Computational Fluid Dynamics
A CFD calculation provides a solution in situations where a manual calculation can no longer be made. For every project the most economically favorable system is designed. A CFD calculation can also be regarded as an equivalence to convince agencies such as the fire department (at a very early stage) of the proper operation of the system designed.
The primary danger of a fire in a parking garage arises through intense smoke production. The fire gases that are created propagate under the ceiling of the parking level. Due to cooling from the ceiling and walls, the smoke can travel downwards. This can hinder the orientation of people fleeing from the parking garage. The localization of the fire by the fire department can become problematic due to the smoke, even after a few minutes. In the NEN 6098 it is states that it must be demonstrated that the ventilation system ensures the controlled extraction of smoke such that a ‘Sight of the fire’ is accomplished.
To predict the situation of a fire in a parking garage, the operation of the ventilation system during a car fire can be simulated with the aid of “Computational Fluid Dynamics” (CFD). For the execution of such a simulation, a 3-dimensional model of the parking garage is set up. Into this model, with the aid of mathematical formulas, are subsequently incorporated the technical systems and the regulation strategies. A correct assessment of the progress of the smoke and heat propagation over time can then be visualized.
Exiss has great expertise in the execution of CFD calculations both in the Netherlands and abroad. Due to this expertise with CFD calculations, Exiss is able to do them quickly and effectively. You are therefore always certain of the proper operation of the system designed and/or tested by us.
